Esenyurt Metro M7: Opening Date & New Stations Guide

Istanbul's transport map continues to expand. One of the most anticipated events for residents and investors is the active construction of a new metro line that will finally connect Esenyurt with the city center.

When the Esenyurt metro will open, which stations will be included in the new M7 line route, and how the launch of the project will solve the problem of hours-long traffic jams — we detail this in our article.

Massive Project: Mahmutbey — Bahçeşehir — Esenyurt Metro Line

The new section under construction is an extension of the already operating and popular M7 line (Kabataş — Mahmutbey). The construction of the Mahmutbey — Bahçeşehir — Esenyurt metro line has strategic importance for the entire European side of the city.

The length of the new track section will be about 18.5 kilometers. According to preliminary calculations by the city municipality, the line's capacity will reach a record 140,000 passengers per hour in both directions. The main advantage of the new M7 metro line is speed. For example, a trip from the terminal station "Esenyurt Meydan" to Mahmutbey will take only 28 minutes, and it will be possible to reach the Kabataş district without transfers in 68 minutes.

The project is being implemented in stages. According to official data for 2026, construction work is proceeding at a fast pace, and the overall physical completion of the first section has exceeded 50%.

  • First launch phase: The section from Mahmutbey station to the Kanuni Sultan Süleyman City Hospital (6.8 km long) is planned to be commissioned at the turn of 2026 and 2027.

  • Second launch phase: The full completion of the route and the opening of stations directly in Esenyurt and Bahçeşehir itself are scheduled for 2028.

The End of the Traffic Jam Era: Istanbul's Transport Revolution

Today, the main burden of transporting the district's residents falls on bus routes and the Istanbul Metrobus line, which operates at the limit of its capacity during peak hours. The launch of a full-fledged underground metro in Esenyurt will significantly relieve key highways, including the E-5 and TEM.

The new Esenyurt metro will completely solve the district's problem of transport isolation by connecting it to Istanbul's unified rail network. Residents and visitors to the city will be able to travel between districts quickly, comfortably, and, most importantly, without traffic jams.
