Turkey has established an Urban Redevelopment Directorate to oversee the redevelopment of old urban buildings.
The Urban Transformation Directorate, recently established under the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, will implement urban transformation in disaster-prone areas, as well as on land and sites containing risky buildings outside these areas.
Following its publication in the Official Gazette, the "Presidential Decree Amending Certain Presidential Decrees" entered into force. According to the decree, the Main Directorate for Urban Transformation Infrastructure and Services, previously subordinate to the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, was abolished and replaced by the "Urban Transformation Presidium." The Urban Transformation Directorate will implement urban transformation in disaster-prone areas, as well as on land and sites containing risky buildings outside these areas. The Presidium will carry out the work stipulated by the Law on the Transformation of Disaster-Prone Areas and will draft legislation on the transformation of buildings and sites subject to disaster risk. The Presidium will be able to ensure cooperation and coordination with government agencies and organizations, universities, local administrations, non-governmental organizations, the private sector and international organizations on issues related to its responsibilities.
